Refractive Index is a research and exhibition project that looks at public media displays as light sources, and their effects and reflections on the environments where they are installed. Prepared software test patterns marks the physical effect that public media displays have, by inverting “what the screen sees,” turning away from the display. The work is shown as a collection of research media (photographs, interactive software, printed renders, screen-based video and projection) featuring software-based ‘test-patterns’ in 9 UK city-sites leading up to the 2012 London Olympics.
